As Different Yet Lovely as Snowflakes
We’re all guilty of it. We see things on television and we convince ourselves that we have to have them. We see the latest fashions, the latest gadgets, the fanciest cars and we tell ourselves that we are not enough unless we have those things. We get caught in the trap of thinking that things define us and that our beauty is defined by what someone else looks like, often somebody that we don’t even know.
There’s an old saying that beauty is only skin deep and I believe it is so true. I know some of the most attractive people and yet they have such ugly hearts. I admire them from afar until I get to know them. Then I am completely repulsed buy them. There’s nothing about them that I want to emulate. They are rude, they are unkind, they think only of themselves; why on earth would I find that attractive? Why would anyone find that attractive?
Physical looks fade, but a gentle spirit and a tender heart are timeless. Everyone’s skin wrinkles after a while and everything that’s firm now will eventually sag; trust me on this! It’s what’s on the inside that will not change, if it is born of the Spirit. When people are full of the love of God, they grow kinder and gentler and become filled with even more love than they started out with. Love is something that you don’t exhaust. The more love you give, the more love you have to give away. It replenishes itself somehow and you never run out. Not so with physical beauty.
When we compare ourselves to others, what we say to God is that He made a mistake and that He is not enough. God can’t make mistakes; He is infallible. We are created in His image and when He looks at us, He sees His Son. We compare ourselves with people that we were put here to complement not compete with, and when we do that, we clash rather than harmonize as we were meant to. We are each different, but like notes in a song, we create a beautiful melody that He loves to hear. We are never boring to Him and Him delights in us. A song with only one note would not be musical at all.
Zeph. 3:17 tells us, “The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." I believe that when we get together, God sings the melody that we make and He rejoices because it makes Him glad. He didn’t make us to look alike or sound alike or move alike. He gave us all different gifts and different features and they’re all beautiful in His sight. WE’RE all beautiful in His sight because we represent Him so well.
Rather than despise your features or your height or your size, acknowledge that God made you the way He did to bring Him glory and let Him use you just as you are. You are unique and He perfected you for His own pleasure. No two stars are the same and no two snowflakes are the same; why would His daughters be the same? Are we not worth more than the stars and snowflakes?
